To trace the history of this old, famous and most people worshiping deity, Sri Gangaparameswari and its Temple at Yelahanka, needs to know that Nadaprabhu Hiriya Kempegowda, also known as Kempegowda, was a chieftain under the Vijayanagara Empire. He is also known as the founder of Bengaluru in the 16th century.
A descendant of Morasu Gowda lineage, Kempegowda is considered one of the most educated and successful rulers of his time. After taking permission from the Vijayanagar emperor Achyutharaya, he built Bangalore Fort and the town in AD 1537, and shifted his capital from Yelahanka to the new Bengaluru Pete.
